THE OIL OF GLADNESS

THE OIL OF GLADNESS

TEXT: Psalm 45:6-8

INTRODUCTION
If you derive your joy and happiness from earthly things, then you will forever be miserable. If Job relied on earthly things as his source of Joy, he would have committed suicide when his own wife told him –Job 2:9 – “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. Job 2:10- But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”

OUTLINE 1: STOP MURMURING
Show me those who murmur and I will show you those who displease God. Murmuring does not help but kills you. Exodus 12:1-12. In 1 Samuel 30:1-9, David and his soldiers returned to their home at Ziglag and found out that the Amalikates had invaded their homes and taken their wives and children captive, David did not seat down to say God why me, what have I done to deserve this, the bible said – David inquired of the LORD what to do ( I Samuel 30:7-10). Be like David, instead of murmuring, ask God what to do and do it. Psalm 86:7

OUTLINE 2: OIL OF GLADNESS THROUGH PRAISE
Psalm 45:7 – “Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Those anointed with the Oil of gladness are addicted to praise. They simile in the midst of great difficulty:

David: He was one man that went through a lot in life, but you will never see complain because he addicted to praise. David never praised God or did anything for God because of what to expected, he just loved and praised him for who He is – Psalm 42:1 – “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?  No wonder he danced before God anyhow and never gave regards to whether he is a King or not.

Stephen: Acts 7:59- And they stoned Stephen, calling upon [God,] and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. {7:60} And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Jesus: Jesus carried the Oil of gladness all through. With nails in his hands and legs and pains he said – father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.

Conclusion: In this world ye shall have tribulations, but be of good cheers because I have overcome. (Story of a family that lost all four children (Boys) in collapsed building last week in Lagos). Pray for God to anoint them with the Oil of gladness to overcome.

Don’t Look Back!

Don’t Look Back! Luke 9:62 – And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Have you answered the call to serve God as His son and daughter? Have you totally chosen Jehovah as your God? Have you decided to leave your old ways and cleave unto God? If yes! Beloved I congratulate you. But hope you took the cost of your choice?? [Please refer to yesterday’s sermon] God doesn’t want us to look back when we have answered the call, why? This is because of the following: Firstly, it brings shame to the body of Christ and makes people to despise Christ. Looking back is to be lukewarm and to depart from the first love! [Revelation 2:4, Revelation 3:16] Secondly, looking back makes the believer to suffer backwardness spiritually and physical. The faith of the believer suffers and takes a longer time to be rebuilt. [Hebrews 6:4]. Thirdly, looking back will make the person not to complete whatever he or she has started. This is w...

Heart Not Garment - 2

"Rend your heart, and not your garments." --Joel 2:13 Apart from vital godliness all religion is utterly vain; offered without a sincere heart, every form of worship is a solemn sham and an impudent mockery of the majesty of heaven. HEART-RENDING is divinely wrought and solemnly felt. It is a secret grief which is personally experienced, not in mere form, but as a deep, soul-moving work of the Holy Spirit upon the inmost heart of each believer. It is not a matter to be merely talked of and believed in, but keenly and sensitively felt in every living child of the living God. It is powerfully humiliating, and completely sin-purging; but then it is sweetly preparative for those gracious consolations which proud un-humbled spirits are unable to receive; and it is distinctly discriminating, for it belongs to the elect of God, and to them alone.

Faulty Covenant

Faulty Covenant Hebrews 8:7 [7] For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. Covenant as a strong bound that is not easily broken can be faulty. The covenant made betwixt God and the Israelites was a faulty covenant in this time of Grace but perfect in it's time. The covenant wasn't to lead sinner's unto Christ's but it was to lead them unto their destructive end quickly. The old covenant was a period of darkness and pains (because it was more by works and not by grace) but thanks to God who invalidated the old covenant and gave us the covenant of Grace where Jesus is the mediator no longer Moses. God spoken of the new covenant long ago in Jeremiah 31:31; it was manifested in Christ. This new covenant brings light to the soul. Every covenant that do not bring light to your life, be destroyed now by fire! Whatever makes you to live by work and not by grace be destroyed! For God's name sake, let everyt...
