Pursue Peace Earnestly II

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Wednesday 24th June 2020. TOPIC: Pursue Peace Earnestly II TEXT: 1 Sam. 25:10,13, 23-24, 33-34.  MESSAGE Talking about the pursuit of peace, the scriptures urges us in psalms 34:14, "Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." let us see from our text, an evil man named Nabal - churlish and evil in his doing; David - a good man even after the heart of God and Abigail - the peacemaker - a bridge builder with a beautiful contenance at heart. Firstly we have the man called Nabal, a son of Balial and full of foolishness has already beaten the drums off war to a Warlord called David who was an angry man because he was hungry at the time and In dire need of food supply for himself and His army. The report given to Abigail by the servant of Nabal who overheard Nabal's railings said he gave a reproachful reply to David's men. From a wider perspective we are told of the help David and his Men had rendered to them by being not on...

Pursue Peace Earnestly 1

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Tuesday 23rd, June 2020. TOPIC: Pursue Peace Earnestly 1 TEXT: Heb. 12:13-15  MESSAGE It is the duty of Christians even when in a suffering state and face-off to follow men with peace. Two wrongs cannot make right. It is not Mathematics where two negatives become plus . Wrong is wrong. We have to prove ourselves as God's children to follow the examples of Christ especially at the scene of His arrest where He picked up the ear of Marcus and divinely gummed or restored it. It shows maturity and Christianity, if we follow the path of peace even with those who are instrumental to our suffering. It is a hard and difficult lesson which should be highly attained for those who profess Christianity which Christ himself has called us into. It is almost a compulsion but necessary to live peaceably with all men as Roman 12: 18 states "If it is possible for as much as it lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."  Verse 14 of our text instructs  ...

THE FULLNESS OF TIME

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Monday, 22nd June, 2020. TOPIC: THE FULLNESS OF TIME  TEXT: GAL. 4:1-7 MESSAGE Everything about this life is linked with time, and it's under divine timing and programming. God's dealings with us are usually time based. Every thing or any thing God is doing is perfectly arranged under His divine timing because He is God of plan and purpose. He told Abraham about the future of his descendants, of how they would suffer and be in bondage in a foreign land at the fullness of time. He, God would liberate them. Verse 4 and 5 of our text say... "But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His son made of a woman under the law to redeem them that are under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons".  In this same vein, God gave a promise after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden concerning the seed of the woman i.e Messiah.  Eventually, God kept to His promise at the fullness of time, as He sent the deliverer to the hum...

HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AND DISCIPLINE II

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Saturday, 20th June, 2020. TOPIC: HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AND DISCIPLINE II TEXT: 1st Sam. 13:13-15 MESSAGE Right attitude towards God and humanity is very essential for greatness. Self-control and gentleness do not portray weakness as the world may see it. That you are humble rather projects your strengths. Just respect and give honour to them who are due for it. Respect is reciprocal. A careful study and running the profile of the right attitude to show gratitude, admission for guilt, heart of repentance,  fear of God and faith in God. He was purely delighted in the service of God, and there was never a dull moment when the things of God are required of him. In life, there are some other ingredients that are required of us by God and man i.e, putting on a smiling face, greeting, and dressing well- 1st Sam 16:12. But there is one great quality which is unequalled and very essential that made David excel with God and prevailed over many circumsta...

HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AND DISCIPLINE

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Friday 19th June, 2020. TOPIC: HAVING THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AND DISCIPLINE TEXT:1  SAMUEL 16 MESSAGE Having the right attitude and discipline are the criteria to become great and remain at the top. We as believers are required to put our best attitude in everything we are assigned to do whether it is divine, self, public or civil.Attitude is simply the state of your mind that controls your physical disposition while discipline is a state of order based on the submission to authority or simply put self-control or enforced control. Divine favour and providence located David who had these two vital qualities and took him from pasture to the throne of kingship.  It happened without struggle. He was anointed and preferred above his brother without special or any recommendation from men. If it were to be human selection or rating by human standard, David would have had the least count or vote. Is it not absurd that among all the sons of Jesse presented ...

Come Unto Me

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Thursday 18th June, 2020. TOPIC: Come Unto Me TEXT: Matt. 11:28  MESSAGE Whenever I go through the Sankey, especially when I feel happy and want to get inspired by the love of God for mankind, I usually amongst others open to sacred songs and solos 473 - "Just as I am without one plea, but that the blood was shed for, and that thou bids me come to thee O lamb of God, I come." It invites the sinner with all his sins, just as he is with all his..., all his unworthiness, pardon, cleanse and receive to relieve them. The love of the father has broken every barrier down - John 3:16. From verse 28 of our text,  Christ says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." The call is for all, the righteous and unrighteous. Job 14:1 says, "Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble."  You might be rich or poor, illiterate or learn, black or white. It is an open invitation. At an...

Franklin Roosevelt's closet adviser during much of his presidency was a man named Harry Hopkins. During World War II, when his influence with Roosevelt was at its peak, Hopkins held no official cabinet position; however, his closeness to Roosevelt caused many to regard him as a shadowy, sinister figure. When asked by a political foe why he kept Hopkins close to him, Roosevelt replied, "Someday you may well be sitting here where I am now as President of United States. and when you'll be looking at that door over there and knowing that practically everybody who walks through it wants something out of you, you will learn what a lonely job t...

Lend Jesus Your Canoe For His Pulpit

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Wednesday 17th June, 2020. TOPIC: Lend Jesus Your Canoe For His Pulpit TEXT: Luke 5:1-5  MESSAGE In this account, Jesus ask Simon Peter to lend Him his boat to use as a pulpit to preach unto the crowd that thronged Him. When Peter agreed, Jesus like Elijah ask the woman of zarephath to go further to prepare him first a meal as the woman was to give him water, also prayed for Peter to thrust out the canoe farther a little from the land and hold it in anchor while He (Jesus) preached the sermon. Brethren,  when you lend Jesus your life or wealth or prosperity as pulpit, He pull you out of the pit of ignorance and wanton destruction of the devil. For you to achieve success in life, you need to obey simple instruction.  When the master was through with the sermon, God who is not unrighteous to forget our work and labour of love, which ye have shrewed towards His name in that ye have minister to the saints and do minister (Heb. 6:10) asked Pet...

Gleanings from the Shadow

MEDITATION Deuteronomy 16:13-22 Gleanings from the shadow  The ordinances of the Old Testament are shadow of the new Testament, the reality of God's plan, Colossians 2:17, Hebrews 10:1. 1. The shadow of feasts a. There were three feasts commanded in the text, v16. b. All of them are pointers to the redemption and the journey of the new life in Christ. c. Feast of unleavened bread had to do with commemoration of when they were delivered from Egypt (the world of sin) vv16,3. The feast was not really pleasant because they could only eat unleavened bread. The equivalence in the NT is the Lord's supper. I Corinthians 11:24. The feast of weeks was to help them remember the great difference between the slavery life in Egypt (sin and the world) and the blessings in the new Canaan life signified by the beginning of harvests vv9,12. The NT reality was fulfilled in the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. The feast of Tabernacles enjoined them to be in booths for 7 weeks as a reminder of t...

PARTIALITY CONDEMNED

DAILY MANNA TUESDAY, 16 JUNE 2020 It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first PARTIALITY CONDEMNED  TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 16:13-22. 🔑 KEY VERSE   "Thou shalt not wrest judgement; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous" (DEUTERONOMY 16:19). During the fall of 1775, a man who appeared to be a typical American farmer attempted to book a room in Baltimore's fashionable hotel. Concerned about the hotel's reputation, the manager refused to rent the room. The man left and he took a room in another hotel. Later, the manager learnt he had refused a room to Thomas Jefferson, the then Vice President of the United States. Immediately, he sent a note asking Jefferson to return to his hotel as a guest. And Jefferson replied: "I value your good intentions highly, but if you have no place for an American farmer, you have no right giving hospitality to an Am...

A NEW IDENTITY.

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: TUESDAY 16 JUNE. TOPIC: A NEW IDENTITY. TEXT: JOHN 1:37-42 MESSAGE : From our knowledge of the word Christian which entails our change of name, character and attitude as stated in 2 Cor.5:17- Now is a new creature, we want to look at both the fromer identity of Peter the son of Jona and his new identity as Peter Cephas meaning stone. Verse 42 of our text says "And Andrew brought him to Jesus and when Jesus beheld him, he said, thou art Simon the son of Jona. Thou shalt be called Cephas, which by interpretation- A Stone. It took Peter a long while to live up to this new name as Jesus nutured him daily to bear this new identity" The initial profile saw him as a fisher man known for his rash way and obstinacy. Many times he disregarded his master (Matt.16:22-23), he struck a man with his sword- very impatient, he did not wait to be instructed-self-will (John 18:10-11) and was very quick to deny his master three times even before the crock crowed...

END OF IMPUNITY

DAILY MANNA MONDAY, 15 JUNE 2020 It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first END OF IMPUNITY  TEXT: 2 KINGS 11:1-12. 🔑 KEY VERSE "And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal seed" (2 KINGS 11:1). What has come to be referred to as the Arab Spring was a series of pro-democracy uprisings that enveloped several largely Muslim countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Bahrain. The events in these nations generally began in the spring of 2011 which led to the removal of popular dictators and brought social and political change. From the passage under review, the southern kingdom of Judah was now being consumed by the venom of the poisonous snake they allowed in their nation. Athaliah, the daughter of Omri, a king in the idolatrous northern kingdom of Israel, came into the royal family of Judah by marriage. She killed her own grandchildren and took control of the nation...

THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD "CHRISTAN" II.

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: MONDAY 15 June 2020. TOPIC: THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD "CHRISTAN" II. TEXT: 2 COR. 5:16-20  MESSAGE Antioch is actually supposed to be the"mother church" in Christendome and not Rome. It is recorded that Paul and Barnabas sojourned in Antioch for one full year, teaching and grooming people from various belief about God to be under the umbrella of Christianity. There was a lot of contempt, mockery and persecutions from other professed scholars in the Jewish religious together with the hearthens and Gentiles which did not restrain or deter these true followers from sticking together in their manner and belief of worship once converted.  There was no longer Jews nor Gentiles as all the former marks of distinction and separation were no longer visible in the new church of Christ. The name of Jesus although not used in philosophy were the followers of Plato assured and preferred to be called Platonists and other likewise, the office of Chris...

SAY 'NO' TO ENSLAVEMENT

DAILY MANNA SUNDAY, JUNE 14 2020 It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first SAY 'NO' TO ENSLAVEMENT  TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 15:12-23. 🔑 KEY VERSE   "And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee" (DEUTERONOMY 15:12). On December 2, 1808, in his annual message to Congress, widely reprinted in most newspapers, President Thomas Jefferson denounced the "violation of human rights" attending the international slave trade and called for its criminalisation. The Lord, in this chapter, prohibited the Israelites from keeping fellow Israelites servants beyond six years. On the seventh year, they should be set free and allowed to go wherever they want without any conditions. The servant who willingly expresses his or her desire to stay in service beyond six years, is to have a hole bored on the right ear to signify that he volunt...

The Origin Of The Word "Christian"

THE CHOSEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: Sunday 14th June, 2020. TOPIC: The Origin Of The Word "Christian" TEXT: Act 11:21  MESSAGE The word Christian is far different from Judaism, and it is not related to religious sects like the Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Sanhedrin or Zealots and the likes. Though the name was not used in the old testament there were priests, prophets Kings and subjects that lived a righteous life with the fear of God. The word Christian originated from the progeny of Christ after He ascended. It is simply defined as disciples and followers of Christ who had a serious thought embracing the religion of Christ using it as their chief care to shape their lives through His precepts and examples. They are the believers that had completely disciplined themselves to the way of life Christ displayed here on earth. The name Christian is not bought with money, position or affluence. It is not to be demanded or forcefully retained. It is like respect which can never be ...
