A Hireling?
John 10:12
[12] But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
As a shepherd do you behave like a hireling? Someone will like to say, he/her is not the owner of the sheep. Yes in the context of creation, you're not the owner but in the context of responsibility and challenges you are. You're the foster owner. Look at David, he wasn't the own of the sheep but he defended and nurtured them well, likewise Jacob; 1 Samuel 17:34 - 36. These they did because of love.
They had love for what was given to them. You as a shepherd, do you love the flock God gave you? It is the level and kind of love you have for God's flock in your custody that can define you as a true shepherd or as a hireling.
Do you have the Christ love for your foster sheep? Is it not a parasitic love benefiting only you? God will ask you on that day shepherd! Shalom!!
