Be Temperate
1 Corinthians 19:25 – And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
The race we run is not sweet, it is not a bed of roses. It is a race that takes a lot from us but the good news is that the reward aftermath is much more than what we endure while in the race.
There is need for temperateness when we are in this race because what we will see if far more than what we bargained for. That is why Jesus told us that we should cost the race before running the race – Luke 14:28. The preparation and awareness we have toward the race we run (any kind of race) determines our temperateness while in the race.
The temperateness is not only in the persecutions but also in the enjoyment of the world [distraction] that keeps flashing at us. We have to endure the temptations, trails and persecutions [James 1:12]. Also, we have to say no to the pleasures of the world that will separate us from God and mess up our race [2 Timothy 2:4].
Beloved, as we run the races of life and the spiritual race, we should be temperate. Shalom!
Prayer
O Lord of Heavens, help my weaknesses and make me be temperate so that I will win the crown which I run for, in Jesus name – Amen.
