THE DANGER OF HAUGHTINESS

DAILY MANNA
FRIDAY, JUNE 12 2020

It is advisable that you meditatively read the text first

THE DANGER OF HAUGHTINESS
TEXT: ISAIAH 2:10-22.
๐Ÿ”‘KEY VERSE
"And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day" (ISAIAH 2:17).

The human heart is a very deep reservoir of several ideas, thoughts and actions. When the heart overvalues the man, it pushes him to overestimate who he is and what he can do. No man wishes to put himself down except if he suffers inferiority complex.

In fact, the Bible talks about every man proclaiming his own good. So, naturally there is tendency in every man to have some elements of pride.

Our passage for meditation today, however, takes a critical look at pride that makes a man to disregard, dishonour and disobey God's commandments as set out in the Scriptures. The picture we have in this narration captures an individual or a group of people, a nation, who deliberately decide to toe the path of haughtiness and pride, that overestimate their worth and thus downplay the place of the divine in their affairs.

But God will be God. He will not share His glory with any man nor tolerate anyone to "think of himself more highly than he ought to think." Pride is a very grave and condemnable sin before God. It was the thing that made Lucifer to lose his place in His presence (Isaiah 14:12-15). There are several passages of the Scripture that warn also of the danger of pride. We also have several examples of people who lost God's favour, their place in His programme, their opportunities in life, as well as their lives because they become proud after God had blessed or favoured them.

What is the state of your heart? Do you often consider yourself as being more important than other people? How do you treat those who are not as privileged as you are? Remember, pride goes before a fall. Be humble.

Don’t Look Back!

Don’t Look Back! Luke 9:62 – And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Have you answered the call to serve God as His son and daughter? Have you totally chosen Jehovah as your God? Have you decided to leave your old ways and cleave unto God? If yes! Beloved I congratulate you. But hope you took the cost of your choice?? [Please refer to yesterday’s sermon] God doesn’t want us to look back when we have answered the call, why? This is because of the following: Firstly, it brings shame to the body of Christ and makes people to despise Christ. Looking back is to be lukewarm and to depart from the first love! [Revelation 2:4, Revelation 3:16] Secondly, looking back makes the believer to suffer backwardness spiritually and physical. The faith of the believer suffers and takes a longer time to be rebuilt. [Hebrews 6:4]. Thirdly, looking back will make the person not to complete whatever he or she has started. This is w...

Faulty Covenant

Faulty Covenant Hebrews 8:7 [7] For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. Covenant as a strong bound that is not easily broken can be faulty. The covenant made betwixt God and the Israelites was a faulty covenant in this time of Grace but perfect in it's time. The covenant wasn't to lead sinner's unto Christ's but it was to lead them unto their destructive end quickly. The old covenant was a period of darkness and pains (because it was more by works and not by grace) but thanks to God who invalidated the old covenant and gave us the covenant of Grace where Jesus is the mediator no longer Moses. God spoken of the new covenant long ago in Jeremiah 31:31; it was manifested in Christ. This new covenant brings light to the soul. Every covenant that do not bring light to your life, be destroyed now by fire! Whatever makes you to live by work and not by grace be destroyed! For God's name sake, let everyt...

Everlasting Not Temporal!

Everlasting Not Temporal! Jeremiah 31:3 – The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee Hello God’s Love! There is a love greater than the greatest love you have ever experience on earth, that love is the Love of God. Malachi 1:2. God love all but all don’t have the same love effect or love level. Long before we were born, God has already loved us. This His love is everlasting not temporal. This love is not subject to some conditions before it is demonstrated or shown. This love just flow from God our Father to us supernaturally. This everlasting love of God has made Him draw us from the troubles and problems of this world to His place of joy and everlasting peace. [Ephesians 1:3, Hebrews 1:1-5]. The fact remains that we did nothing to acquire God’s love but we do things to grow His love for us. In the same way, despite what we do His love for us remains but we ...
